Bird protection Vlaanderen Belgium

Vogelbescherming Vlaanderen vzw

Bird protection Vlaanderen vzw is a Belgian nature conservation organisation. The association was initially the Flemish section of the Royal Belgian Association for the Protection of Birds (RBVBV). This association was founded in 1922 as the country's first national nature conservation association. On 28 June 2002, Vogelbescherming Vlaanderen vzw was established as an independent association under the auspices of the KBVBV. Since then it has followed its own course and its main field of activity is the Flemish Region.

The association is concerned with the improvement and refinement of legislation for the protection of nature in general and wild fauna in particular. It also manages a number of nature reserves and coordinates a chain of shelters for birds and wild mammals in need, which respond to oil spills, for example. Nature and environmental education is also close to her heart. Vogelbescherming Vlaanderen also coordinates the activities of a number of working groups, including for the protection of the barn owl and the house sparrow. Since 1962, Vogelbescherming Vlaanderen has been publishing a magazine/members' magazine – namely Mens & Vogel – which appears four times a year and has an average circulation of 13,000 copies.
