Norwegian Scientific Committee for Food and Environment
The Scientific Committee for Food and Environment (VKM) assesses risks for the Norwegian Food Safety Authority and the Norwegian Environment Agency, which use the assessments to draw up advice, issue permits, develop regulations and provide input to the ministries.
VKM ensures that the authorities receive independent scientific risk assessments of conditions that are important for health-safe food and for the environment. For the Norwegian Food Safety Authority, we assess risk in the areas animal health and animal welfare, nutrition and nutrients, genetically modified organisms (GMO), cosmetics and body care products, food safety, plant health and pesticides.
