Julius Kühn-Institut - Federal Research Centre for Cultivated Plants Germany (JKI)
└ Julius Kühn-Institut - Bundesforschungsinstitut für Kulturpflanzen (JKI)
The Julius Kühn Institute (JKI) is the federal research institute for cultivated plants in Germany. As an independent higher federal authority, it belongs to the Federal Ministry of Food and Agriculture (BMEL).
The JKI employs almost 1,200 people, including around 350 scientists. They work in 17 specialist institutes at the headquarters in Quedlinburg and at nine other locations (Braunschweig, Berlin and Kleinmachnow, Darmstadt, Dresden-Pillnitz, Dossenheim, Groß Lüsewitz, Siebeldingen and Münster). The information center and library, the central data processing, the administration and the test fields with a total of approx. 600 hectares of cultivation area work across the institutes.
As a higher federal authority, our tasks are defined by law. The close interlinking of research and sovereign tasks results in synergy effects for the processing of current research projects on the one hand and the scientific preparation of political advice and official decisions on the other.
