Hedgehog protection Netherlands

Egelbescherming Nederland

The purpose of the shelter is to temporarily house, care for and rehabilitate protected native hedgehogs and squirrels. These animals cannot survive independently in the wild due to illness, injury or orphans. This can happen both directly and indirectly through human acts or omissions. The shelter is aimed at the return of the animals to nature as soon as possible. In doing so, animals are prevented from experiencing unnecessary stress or injury as much as possible. The shelter is set up in such a way that an animal can continue to display its species-specific behavior as much as possible after returning to nature.

Where possible, the shelter provides information about the wild flora and fauna and actively promotes, in particular to persons who bring an animal for shelter, that the wild native flora and fauna and the natural processes associated with it must not be disturbed.
