German Wildlife Foundation

Deutsche Wildtier Stiftung

German Wildlife Foundation - more than 50 years for red deer, dormice, hare and all other native wild animals.

Long before the official beginnings of the German Wildlife Foundation, the commitment of its later founder, Haymo G. Rethwisch, to wildlife protection was growing. As early as 1960, the Hamburg entrepreneur acquired the first areas in Fintel, Lower Saxony, which he consistently converted into habitats for wild animals. Even then, Rethwisch was thinking in ecological terms and relied on wildlife-friendly agriculture and forestry. That puts him way ahead of his time 50 years ago.

Today, more than 50 employees of the foundation at three locations are involved in numerous projects for the preservation and creation of habitats for our native wild animals. The active implementation of species protection projects is just as much a part of their tasks as nature education projects to counteract alienation from nature, especially among children and young people.
